Cheaper Health Insurance – 7 Ways To More Affordable Rates

March 3rd, 2010

All you have to do to bring down what you spend without putting yourself at risk is to learn and implement the right tips. I’ll share seven of such steps in this article. Here we go…

1. How much are you willing to contribute to payments for seeing your doctor? The amount which you contribute is called your co-pay. Your rate will be less expensive if you choose a higher co-pay. This is particularly recommended for people who hardly need to see a doctor.

2. If you earn little then you might qualify for Medicaid. Different states have different criteria for qualification. But the basic criterion is that you must fall within the low-income bracket. Having a job doesn’t make you ineligible.

A member of your family may qualify even if you don’t and therefore reduce your family health insurance spend. So verify from your state’s Medicaid program if you are eligible.

3. You will also pay a more affordable rate if you keep up a healthy routine. For example, your rate will be lower with time if you stop taking junk food. Cutting off fats, cholesterol and high carb from your diet will make it easier for you to maintain the ideal weight, live a healthier life and, as a consequence, attract lower rates.

In the same way, you’ll be healthier and as a result have to see the doctor less if you consistently exercise up to thirty minutes daily.

4. Each year the government invests a lot in publishing health insurance guides and more. You’ll know more about health matters and health insurance policy if you can get such publications. And, with better information, you and yours will know what to do to prevent some ailments, live a healthier life and eventually reduce your health care costs. Your knowledge goes a long way to determine what you eventually spend on health insurance. You can get these government publications at http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov

5. If you want to spend less on health insurance get a Flexible Spending Account. You can put away tax-free dollars to cater for your health needs. Any amount not used could be rolled over into the next year (still tax free). With this you can actually build up a substantial amount to meet your health care needs.

6. A very affordable rate is good but be certain that you don’t become beclouded by making it the only factor. You don’t want a very low quote that does not give you a good value to price ratio. If the cheapest quote offers everything that is of value to you, then choose it. But in cases where you don’t find the right value at the lowest rate, you’ll be making the right choice if you spend more to ensure you truly get the quality of health insurance coverage that you really need.

In a number of situations very cheap quotes also offer great value but sometimes they could have a poor quality. Such cheap health insurance quotes won’t be a wise choice since you did not get the right coverage for you.

7. You can see savings of hundreds of dollars by getting insurance quotes from quote sites. The best method is to visit not less than five quotes sites and making sure that you give the same (correct) details. I advise that you use not less than five quotes sites since it will ensure you do not miss out better quotes not presented by the other sites. This provides you a broader basis for doing more extensive comparisons thus increasing your chances of better quotes.

Health Insurance – Women Pay Higher Rates

March 2nd, 2010

In most other cases of Insurance, women get the better deal. But in health insurance, it is otherwise. Why Women get higher rates than Men when it comes to health insurance is exactly what I would Examine here.

Consider the following.

There is a general consensus that Women tend to require more health attention and also affordable health insurance coverage than men. Why? Lets try to find out.

Every normal female experiences menstrual cycle. This of course involves blood flow and some psychological effects. From a particular age to menopause, this cycle continues apart from during pregnancy. So how many years of blood flow are we talking about? Does this have any implication on the health needs of women generally? This is one issue.

As if this is not enough, women also give birth to children. The period of gestation has its health needs but more than this, the after effect of the different pregnancies must have some kind of effect on their bodies resulting in a higher need for health care and therefore affordable health insurance coverage.

If we keep constantly in mind the fact that Insurance companies are not charitable organizations but businesses out to make profit, we would see why they need to take a lot of factors into consideration.

The major factor they take into consideration is what percentage of any group of insureds would likely make claims, the amount claimed and the consequences to their business.

Look at it this way. If a certain percentage of a group of insureds make a claim, their overall rate must be such that the insurance company would still make profit. For example, 1 out of 100 insureds make a claim of $1000 and the the insureds pay a rate of $100, the company would still make profit and can even afford to lower the rates.

Following the above, we would see that since women are known to generally claim on their health insurance more than men, they would necessarily be required to pay higher rates than men.

Am I saying women can’t get affordable health insurance coverage? No!

Just follow the the tips listed below and you would be sure to get a lower rate.

Give up tobacco and smoking.

Dangerous games and sports should be avoided.

Any jobs that are hazardous should be avoided.

Lower your rates and increase your attraction by staying in shape.

A regular exercise routine is also necessary.

Engage in things that make you happy as happy people are less likely to fall ill.

Very importantly, get and compare quotes extensively before taking up a policy. you wuld be able to determine which is best for your situation.

With over 2,000 companies providing health insurance, you would surely have varying rates. So take your time and get the best.

Whether you pay more or less would be determined by the number of quotes you get. The more quotes you get, the more options you have.

Health Insurance Help

February 26th, 2010

Health insurance is perhaps the most important product we will spend our hard earned cash on and making sure we our adequately covered should be at the forefront of everyone’s mind. Too many Americans are running the risk of living their lives with no health insurance whatsoever and whilst the cost of health insurance is admittedly rising and rising, every effort should be made to ensure you have a policy which reflects your needs.

It is these rising costs that are leading many people to risk living uninsured, however there are many things you can do to reduce the costs. For example, buying your health insurance whilst you are still young will present you significant savings, obviously because the youthful are thought to be more healthier. It is also imperative you compare the market a few times a year to make sure that your policy is still up to date and competitive, if it’s not it is time to start renegotiations. Do not assume that the cheaper health insurance option is the best for you simply because “nothing will ever happen to me”. Think carefully about how much you value your health and make sure you insurance reflects your lifestyle.

There are things you can physically do to reduce your health insurance premiums, for example if you smoke, then quitting can reduce the annual premium by around $250, you will also be less likely to call upon the insurance plan! If you can afford it, pay for your policy annually as you will save on any interest payments which your provider may charge. If you are fresh out of university you may be able to be included on your parent’s policy for a little while, to ease the pressure of all the expenditure you have recently incurred.

Although health insurance premiums continue to rise, with no plans for any government reform it is still one of the most important purchases you will make. Make sure you invest a reasonable amount of time in researching and buying your health insurance, for affordable life protection and peace of mind.
